The Totalizing Quest of Meaning

One of the most commonly analyzed director in writings about anthropological and documentary films is Trinh T. Minh-ha, filmmaker, feminist, postcolonial theoretician. This essay was originally published in her volume When the Moon Waxes Red – Representation, Gender and Cultural Politics in 1991. Republication among documentary film theories is a sign of its importance. While Trinh T. Minh-ha examines theoretical assumptions her approach is based on, she gives voice to postcolonial critical views about the „Western” understanding of knowledge.
